I have to ask? Is there any such thing as a Horses Haven? Not to belittle the ideal of helping or giving or even needing, but doing research on a local rescue center then finding the mention of it here online well I just had to enter into the conversation and give my opinion.
I called Horses Haven three times over the last two years; I was told there is a waiting list to take in horses. I have to ask myself how long the waiting list is. Then I have to ask myself if they are so limited and have no place to take in new horses what are they supporting? Perhaps they are keeping some of the rescue horses that came out of Flint, a couple of years ago that help put them on the map.
A sad case of 57 horses that Horses Haven did come on and help rescue. Perhaps they are hanging onto a few horses that they can not find homes for? Now if you have a few unwanted horses, should you keep them and collect funds in their name, solicit for money and grants and anything else they can, but when someone calls and ask them for help they get put on a waiting list. Sounds fishy to me.
Another thing, I read a write up on them in a local article of our local news paper, I have no ideal how they managed to call and get that in there but the PR on the place is great, to bad that is where it ends. They ask for volunteers, not to help but to do it all, again I have to ask what does the founder of this so called rescue do besides the PR of the place.
Does she live on the premises, does she enjoy the funds she collects, do they provide support for her, and does she have an income to supplement herself besides the money she is asking all of use to provide while she refuses the horses that require a three year waiting list? Then there was the question why are we volunteering for a person that will not do the work herself, are we that stupid. I suppose so for she has had a lot of volunteers, and not only that she screens them and you have to submit an application to be a volunteer. Sounds fishy to me.
Another question on Horses Haven, they take in horses they say not sickly, unhealthy ones but healthy ones that they can find homes for. That is another concept going on here; they have taken in healthy ride-able horses, so they can adopt them out but the fees for adoption as much if not more than a reseller’s fee. Oh my goodness am I wrong here, correct me if I am but this Horses Haven is a scam. They have hit a golden lining and seem to be reaping the rewards of being noted as a 501C non-profit. Interesting concept here, also if you want more information on them, contact the Attorney General Office and request information on them, you can also ask for a copy of their Corporation Papers which shows a long and loose string of board members. Hmmm, if the board members stuck around long enough maybe they need to re-elect a new Chairman of the Board and take on better working and relation habits.
If you have had problems with Horses Haven, been rejected, been put on hold, been ripped off, been bad mouthed, been abused in any form or just have a story you want to share you can contact me. Send your replies to ellbee@hotmail.com
